In 1903, Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company and changed the way automobiles were built and the way people worked. To this day, his assembly line concept and 40-hour workweek are part of our everyday lives. Ford offered people a new way to travel that gave them more freedom to go more places and further distances. Ford was responsible for a new era of transportation in the United States. Even though Ford was enjoying the success of his own company, in 1922 he purchased the faltering Lincoln Motor Company and decided to make it Ford’s “luxury division”. Since 1922, Lincoln has brought consumers affordable luxury and for 2015, Ralph Lauren is helping them raise the bar on style.
Henry Ford rescues Lincoln
The Lincoln Motor Company was founded in 1917, and after only a few years, faced severe financial trouble. Henry Ford knew he could turn the company around and purchased it in 1922 to be Ford’s “luxury” division. Since then, Lincoln has offered a variety of cars, trucks (the limited run Blackhawk) and SUVs that have provided luxury appointments but have still maintained the affordability Henry Ford wanted his company to offer. With the recent recession and years of rising fuel prices, the typical consumer seemed to lose interest in the traditional luxury cars opting for something less expensive and more fuel-efficient. In 2012, Lincoln rebranded themselves as the Lincoln Motor Company once again, and began to offer a new line of affordable, fuel-efficient luxury cars. For 2015, Lincoln will be offering a new designer collection with a little help from Ralph Lauren.
Lincoln’s 2015 Black Label line
Late next year, the Lincoln Motor Company will begin delivering the first vehicles in its Black Label line. There will be three choices available, according to Lincoln’s director of global marketing, Matt VanDyke, the Indulgence, Center Stage and Modern Heritage. The packages will be offered on all Lincoln models. Upgraded appointments for these special editions will include Alcantara suede and leather seating, wood trim and five exclusive exterior finishes, one of which will be a unique blue they have named “Notorious”. These upscale versions of the Lincoln are intended to attract buyers who now indulge in the luxury of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus, but want the same luxury at a more affordable price. Lincoln also plans to follow this line up with three additional new models by 2016.
